Meat soups for babies & toddlers

Meatballs soup with rice (as of the 8th month of age)

Ingredients:

  • 200 gr minced beef

  • 3 tbsp basmati rice

  • ¼ of a carrot (graded thinly)

  • ¼ of an onion (graded thinly)

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp oregano

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • Parsley thinly chopped

  • Salt & pepper (after the 1st year of age)

Instructions:

In a bowl, add the minced meat, one tbsp of olive oil, the rest of the ingredients except the basmati rice. Wash well the basmati rice, till starch is gone and the water is clear. Add one tbsp of the basmati rice in the bowl with the meat and combine all ingredients together by mixing them with your hand. Form small meatballs and leave them aside.

Add water in a pot and when it starts to boil, add a pinch of salt, one tbsp of olive oil and the meatballs. Boil for 35 minutes and then add the rest of the basmati rice. Boil for ten more minutes. Your soup is ready!

You could also add in the plate a bit of butter and 1 tsp of fresh lemon juice.

If you are following the Baby-Led Weaning method, lightly press the meatballs with a fork in pieces or just cut them in half. If you give purees to your baby, you could use the food processor to have a velvet soup.

This is a two portions soup and you could store the extra portion in the fridge for the next day (only if the meat is fresh, not frozen).

  • 1 potato (and/or sweet potato)

  • 1 carrot

  • Different types of veggies such as celery, spinach, zucchini, green beans etc.

Instructions

Wash the meat, cut it into small pieces and cook for 1 hour until soft. Peel off, clean and wash the vegetables, cut them into small cubes and add them to the meat after the first half hour of cooking. Boil for another 30 minutes. You can also add 1 tsp of olive oil and 1 tsp of fresh lemon juice.

If you are following the Baby-Led Weaning method, lightly press the vegetables and the meat with a fork, while making sure that there is still texture. If you give purees to your baby, you could use the food processor to have a velvet soup.
