Choking hazards for little ones
I am sure that if you read the list below, you will be surprised by some of the foods that could be dangerous for your little one. It is important to be aware of them and to know how specific foods should be offered.
Choking hazards/foods to avoid:
Whole nuts
Popcorn
A spoonful of peanut butter
Round or hard candies
Gummy candies
Chewing gum
Marshmallows
Choking hazards/Foods to quarter lengthwise:
Cherry tomatoes
Grapes
Blueberries
Cherries
Dried fruits
Sausage
String cheese
Except for the choking hazard, babies who consume sugar will have difficulties accepting foods, even fruits that may taste a little sourer, and thus later will develop poor eating habits. Also, consuming sugar can cause tooth decay and promotes childhood obesity. Honey should not be consumed during the 1st year of life due to bacteria that could harm your baby.
Regarding salt and its addition to foods during the 1st year of life can harm the baby's kidneys. It is recommended by doctors to avoid the following foods in general and not only for babies and kids.
Salty foods to avoid:
Salt crackers
Chips
Ready meals
Take-away food
Bacon
Sausages
Foods to avoid due to food poisoning hazards:
Non pasteurized cheese
Raw or not well-cooked eggs and fish
Milk rice (it might contain arsenic)
